Preparing for the wet

November 18, 2010 2 comments

During the past four weeks, while I have been distracted with non-boatbuilding tasks, Tom has completed two weather-related jobs on the boat. The first was to air-condition the boat so that interior work could continue on wet days. This involved fitting thirteen hatches, one door, and a ply frame over one of the hatches for mounting the air-conditioner. The result is a very cool and dry interior, chilled to much lower temperatures than that which can be achieved in most houses here.

The second job was building the cleat mounts, so that the cleats can be used to tie-down the boat in the event of a cyclone. We are in a La Nina phase, which means above average tropical cyclone activity for this wet season.
