The chain way – eight holes

September 13, 2011 2 comments

The chain way is what we have decided to call the locker just forward of the anchor chain/winch locker. It is a thoroughfare for the primary anchor rode and will also store the rode of the second forward anchor. There are two holes forward to accommodate each of these rodes, and one aft for the active rode to pass through to the winch. We anticipate using only one forward anchor at a time.

The edges of these holes were de-cored and reinforced with ropes of uni-directional glass.

The hole created to facilitate the unrolling of layers glass for the baby stay chainplate was filled in.

Two drain holes were required near the rear edge of the locker. As we already had two pre-made glass discs on hand, Tom simply removed equivalent circles of top laminate and balsa, then dropped in and glued the discs.

These were then covered with squares of weft triaxial glass.

Another two holes were required for the passage of the diesel genset exhaust hose. This hose passes through the rear of the locker from the anchor chain/winch locker and then out through the forward wall. The following photos show the drilling of the holes after they have been de-cored and reinforced.

Eight holes – five holes created, one filled in, and two drains, reinforced, ready to be drilled out.
