The first storm hit us last night with a vengeance. Winds reaching 53 knots popped the d-rings on the tarp like champagne corks. It seems thirteen months of exposure is too much for the webbing and stitching that holds them on.
A few months earlier we purchased new tarps to be installed after rolling the starboard hull back (because the half bridgedeck will most likely damage the tarp in the process). There was approximately one day of epoxying/sanding required, and then the rolling and tarp replacment was going to happen this weekend. But rebuilding the roof after the storm was the top priority today, particularly as the port hull panels are still on the floor. The hull turning has been set back yet another week, as Tom has spent a good deal of the day replacing the edge tiedowns and replacing popped ‘D’ rings with Tarp Chokers. They are very easy to use, made of HDPE so should stand up to the sun.
