Carbon Mast – Update 2

Yes, the masts were constructed, however although the basic spars met the engineering requirements we have decided not to acquire these spars for our rig from Harryproa and will make alternative arrangements.

At the rate we are progressing the project, we have plenty of time.

Suffice to say we are not changing anything regarding the design at this stage.

We also understand that both masts went to a new home with a Schionning Wilderness 1230 Bi-Rig project almost immediately, which we find a little odd as the spars were designed with the numbers for an Oram 44C and our particular installation and unusual rig design requiring specific reinforcement for rotation bearings etc.

Maybe the Schionning Wilderness 1230 Bi-Rig design numbers were modified to suit as I understand there has been some delay in the rig for that design to date. We are looking forward to seeing the results of this project.

Here are some images we received, showing the boat end of one of the stayless carbon masts. For all of you Flickr and digital photography enthusiasts, we have no idea when the images were taken as (curiously) all the EXIF data is intact, except Date and Time data which appears to have been scrubbed.
