Early Christmas gift from the landlord

Yesterday, the landlords walked into our boatshed and delivered an early Christmas gift, being the news that we wouldn’t be able to renew the lease on our home and boatshed, as they required it for their personal use. This has come as an enormous shock, as we had hoped to finish building the boat here. We now have only two months in which to find another suitable property, prepare the boat for transporting, and move our home, the boat, and all its associated materials, tools and equipment. To compound the difficulty, there is the risk that if a monsoon and/or cyclone sets in soon, the ground will become too wet for a transport truck to enter this property or the new destination property.

Fortunately, there is very little we need to do to the boat structurally to prepare it for transporting. We decided today to continue installing the three fibreglass poles which we dry-fitted in the aft cockpit last week. Once these are glassed to the back beam and roof, the boat is ready.

To provide easier access into the back beam for taping the poles and the beam top, we cut out the locker doors first. Tom made up a ply template for marking out the position of each door. He then cut out the panels using the jigsaw, and decored the edges with a router (whilst I held the extractor hose nozzle alongside).
