Catwalk Beam Tops

This was a pleasant exercise in the use of bonding angle to internally join the top to each of the catwalk beams.

Some time back, Judy and I made the 3000mm pieces of u-shaped bonding angle for this task, so the first job was to join pieces to fit the 4230mm beams. They were simply aligned, butted and then joined with internal 750gram weft triax.

Once cured the bonding angle was glued and screwed to the lower side of the beam’s top panel. Glue was then applied to the contact edges of the bonding angle/beam top and the inner upper beam sides.

The top was then fitted, wiggled back and forth to clear the air and screwed down. On curing and removal of the temporary screws, the oversize edges where rounded over ready for the external reinforcing.

The photos following show the process.
