Finally the catwalk beams are in, and this is how they were finished and installed.
Below – starting the second beam, the first beam has it’s unidirectional and off axis double bias applied and it is here wraped in plastic acting as lay-up table.
Below – With resin applied all round, the first of the unidirectional layers are applied.
Below – All the unidirectional layers on all four sides are complete.
Below – Starting with the first layer of off axis double bias ( well sort of off axis).
Below – The completed second beam with peel ply fitted.
Below – The beams in the pre-installation area have had a nose reduction to mate with the fore-beam.
Below – …and mating notches in the bridgedeck leading edge and forward structural beam.
Note the beams will extend under the deck, back to the mast beam.
Below – …like this
Below – and the view looking forward.
Below – up close at the fore-beam, catwalk beam intersection.
Below – The bridge deck vertical panels taped in and bandaged (peel ply applied).
Below – The fore-beam connection
Below – Some unidirectional going on.
Below – Unidirectional with weft triax over, connecting to the mast-beam and also at the other end around the fore-beam and they are done.
Below – This photo is an update as I realised today I had not taken any photos of the forward unidirectional tapes with weft triax over.
