The doubler inside the hatch serves to stiffen the cut-out, and act as a jam or flange for the lid. A rubber seal will be installed on the doubler to face the lid, the latch will close under it and the hinge washers and nuts will be counter-bored into it.
Below – The doublers were made from the leftover large hatch cut-outs from the back cabin bulkhead.
Below – After the glass reinforcing blocks were installed and sanded level, the facing side was glassed over.
Below -View of the finished doubler and its mating area on the underside of the deck.
Below – Another view. Note the mark out to show me where the glue goes and does not go.
Below – Glued together and clamped securely.
Below – The weft triax going on 3 sides only, as the aft edge abuts the forward structural beam, so will be taped in when the deck is done internally.
Below – Finished doubler/jam/flange from the underside.
Below – Finished doubler/jam/flange as it will be viewed from the deck.
