Apart from deciding on boat systems structure due to their imminent inclusion into some building tasks, purchasing boat bits and rebuilding the shed, ( I hope for the last time), I have been working on a large variety of tasks.
One in particular is 6 large hatches for access to storage lockers, all of which are relatively simple and and allow some water in. This is not a concern normally, as the storage involved is self draining. However we have opted for two diesels. This means the aft locker will have a bilge instead of a draining floor and the forward bridge deck lockers will contain flexible fuel tanks.
The sail locker hatches and particularly the engine access needs to be quite large. This is because I prefer to maintain the engines from within each compartment, instead of reaching through a hatch.
Considering these concerns, I have decided to to try to build large hatches with much better sealing and will start with the fore deck sail lockers where I can afford to stuff up a bit.
