Today’s plan was to be measuring and marking the hatch positions in the front cabin walls, and then commencing the cut-out edge core replacement and reinforcement.
However we decided it would be more fun to mark out and cut away the metre (or so) roof overhang at the front. This would also make access easier for fitting the front cabin walls.
Firstly, Tom made up a tool which allowed him to draw a consistently offset pencil line on the roof underside. This line was approximate only – final measurements and tidying up will be done later.
Tom wanted to trim the panel working downhand like this….
….but decided it would be too much fuss to transfer the cutting line to the roof upperside. So he worked overhead.
Of course our versatile Subaru car jacks were used to help prevent the panel falling on him.
A rather large offcut resulted. We chose to do it this way, as we wanted plenty of duflex to “lever”, when we were torturing the roof to meet the cabin walls.
The flat front panels will look severe, we know. But they will be hidden behind a combination of raised deck, and steps leading to the roof.
