More of the Sacrificial Keel Port Hull

The day started with a warm up session, fixing some plumbing in the house, then we started hand planing the hardwood edges of the sacrificial keel to shape prior to taping. The hand planing was bloody hard so, after a short period we stopped to have a look at an old small electric plane that was previously used, during the starboard hull, thought might be too brutal.

We reduced the cut to a very fine level and after a test decided it would be OK. One has to be, especially near the glass reinforcing and we had to work out a way to extract the shavings which were a fine dust and getting everywhere.

The wood is a hardwood that can be a bit poisonous as dust, so we spent some time making an adapter from a PVC pipe for the extractor hose to fit the little triangle outlet on the plane.
It all worked well, so we plan to spend tomorrow planing and then filleting and taping the edge.
