The chain way – chainplate bulkhead

Bob specified a 25mm Duflex bulkhead to brace the baby stay chainplate. As mentioned earlier, part of this bulkhead needed to be trimmed to allow the anchor chain to pass through the hole to the winch in the compartment immediately behind.

After shaping, the top edge was de-cored for reinforcing with uni-directional glass.

Tom laid five pieces of 100mm 1000gsm uni-directional tape in the trench, each one folded twice longitudinally, to reduce the width to a quarter of the original ie. 25mm wide.

Back-filled with glue to bring it flush with the edges…

In preparation for the weft triaxial tape, the edges were rounded and Tom smeared glue for tackiness

By shaping the glass around the curves by hand like this, it was possible to remove all creases and leave quite a smooth surface.
