We completed the final trim of this panel yesterday, where it had to be raised to check the fit, lowered trimmed then repeat a number of times.
This morning we set up everything for the usual ‘race against the resin clock’, had lunch watching some excellent activity at the games in Beijing, then proceeded with the choreography.
- We started with the kerfed panel and attached and anchored block and tackle.
- Injected runny glue mixture into the kerfs using a new found tool – a BBQ sauce dispenser bottle.
- Spread stiff glue mixture on the edges, which also stopped the runny glue running out, and on the mating line on the top bow chamfer panel.
- Hauled up the panel to the marked and glued position and into its two curved and one straight section shape.
- Important note here was to tie off the tackle securely using the cleat on our tarp supporting mast.
- Scraped the excess glued away from inside, cleaned up and added more to the edge joins.
- Filleted and taped the underside.
The topside (inside) is still covered with peel ply which will remove the last of the glue smears prior to glassing over. I will then fillet and tape these inside edges.
